Do you have a talent to perform live or do like to watch live performances?

UBC's Got Talent highlights singing, dancing, instrumental, theatre, spoken word or other performing talents of the UBC community. Students, alumni, faculty, staff and members of the University Neighbourhoods Association are invited to audition (deadline midnight March 5th). All levels of experience are welcome.

In line with our community-building vision, the UBC Bookstore is pleased to produce this event on March 29, at the newly renovated Old Auditorium - building on AMS's remarkable success last year. Donations to the United Way Campaign of Lower Mainland will be accepted at the event in return for a ballot to rank performances. Performances ranked in the top three will receive prizes from the Bookstore.

Due to a high demand, many could not get tickets last year, so buy yours early!

Due to a strong commitment from our generous sponsors, the ticket costs are kept affordable, at $5. Last year, many people could not get tickets, so buy yours early!

You can buy tickets in person at the UBC Bookstore using cash, debit card and major credit cards. Tickets are limited to no more than six per person, but for group purchases you may contact the Executive Producer directly.

Audition

Thank you to everyone who applied to perform! We received a variety of great auditions from talented members of the UBC Community. A panel of judges will review the submitted videos based on the following criteria and we will let the applicants know the outcome around March 15. Not all performances have to meet every criteria:

Depth (connection to societal issues, celebrations of cultures, storytelling of personal and/or community narratives)

Entry Deadline

Entry forms must be received online no later than Monday, March 5th at 11:59pm. All contestants will receive an email confirming submission.

Administration

The competition and the event will be administered by the UBC Bookstore or its designate.

Who Can Enter

UBC's Got Talent is open to members and affiliates of UBC community including students, alumni, faculty, staff and residents living on campus. Contestants must be amateur, non-professional performers. The definition of amateur and non-professional is at the discretion of the judging panel and the UBC Bookstore or its designate. A performance may have a mix of performers from within and outside the UBC Community.

Performance Rules

No performance may exceed four minutes during auditions or final performance.

Those chosen to perform on March 29th at the Old Auditorium may request an extension from the Executive Producer.

At its sole discretion, the UBC Bookstore or its designate may exclude a performance due to material that the UBC Bookstore determines to be obscene, derogatory, hateful or discriminatory.

The program will not be able to accommodate complex technical requirements.

Only live performances will be accepted. However, not all elements of the performance need to be live. For example, recorded background music may accompany a live vocalist.

The UBC Bookstore or its designate will have the sole discretion to choose the number of performances for the final talent show on March 29th.

Those selected as finalists must be available inclusively from 4:00pm to 10:00pm on 29 March 2012 for dress rehearsal and performance at the Old Auditorium.

General Conditions

The UBC Bookstore reserves the right to make any final decisions on all matters not covered by these rules and regulations, as well as the right to change, alter and/or rearrange parts or all of these competition rules and regulations at any time.

The UBC Bookstore is not responsible for any expenses incurred by performers.

Performers grant the UBC Bookstore the right to photograph, film, video and/or digitally record their performance. All recordings and submissions and the content thereof become the sole and exclusive property of the UBC Bookstore and may not be returned.

Tickets are for general seating only. Price does not include applicable taxes. Tickets will not be taken back for exchange or refund and are good only for the performance issued. Lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed ticket will not be honoured. In the interest of all patrons, latecomers and any persons leaving the auditorium will not be seated until a suitable break as determined by management. Management does not accept responsibility for the inconvenience and can make no adjustment on account of it. Cameras, recording equipment, pagers and cellular phones are prohibited in the auditorium. Food and beverage, projectiles and other prohibited substances are not permitted inside the auditorium. Management reserves the right to refuse admission by refunding the price appearing on the ticket and/or to expel from the premises any person whose presence or conduct is deemed by management to be objectionable. Admission is subject to compliance with applicable laws, by-laws, regulations and facility rules.
